Participate as a Senior
(approx. >55 years)
Numerous institutions including the United Nations in their World Assemblies on Ageing have shown that through changing demographics an enormous need for intergenerational programs exists.
Multi-generational families rarely live under one roof anymore and with both parents often working full-time, seniors and juniors are drifting apart at a time when they need one another more than ever.
Seniors, with a lifetime of valuable experiences, are in a unique position to support young people in an increasingly complex and competitive world. This could mean advising on education and career paths, helping with homework or encouraging interest in local history, the environment or arts and crafts.
Having a reliable senior friend and coach to turn to for advice or just to spend time with leads to an increase in self-worth, self-confidence and respect for other individuals of any age. Young people who experience the trust and support of others have a brighter future and are equipped to become happy and successful adults able to contribute to society and become role models for the next generation.
The possibilities for interaction are endless and fostered by the natural human trait to pass on valuable accumulated knowledge to the younger generations. Step in, and make a positive and sustainable impact on the lives and dreams of young people.
